During its more than 26 years as a government institution for housing finance, the NHMFC takes pride, among other things, in having been the progenitor of the concept and program for shelter savings and provident fund that is now the widely successful Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or Pag-IBIG Fund. It is now the primary fund for low-cost and middle-income housing acquisition.

During the last quarter of 2005, NHMFC once again spun off all its social housing powers and functions into the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), a separate institution that is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NHMFC. Mandated to be the lead government agency to undertake social housing programs for the low-income earners, SHFC has assumed the implementation of the Community Mortgage Program (CMP), and of the amortization as well as the developmental component of the Abot-Kaya Pabahay Fund (AKPF) Program.
CMP, for more than 17 years now, has been the most affordable, long-term microfinance facility to meet land tenure and housing security requirements of those so-called "poorest of the poor."  It is now recognized as the most successful housing program for the homeless and the underprivileged sector of our society.

NHMFC, thus, congratulates SHFC for its website, which should serve as the venue by which SHFC could be more responsive in communicating with and providing its services to its stakeholders. In a matter of months, SHFC has proven its commitment to serve the greater majority of the urban poor.

Congratulations! We will always be happy to note that, just like Pag-IBIG, SHFC is another offspring that NHMFC will be proud of.
